I design and letter custom signs and execute memorable, temporary installations for weddings and special events. Now, I’m sharing my best practices with lettering enthusiasts all over the country.

Successfully lettering chalkboards can be a challenge. The chalk artist typically has to make sure that they are guiding the viewer’s eye over a lot of important information:

  • What lettering styles are best for chalk?

  • Is there a reliable method I can use to create engaging layouts?

  • How can I make sure my design elements are not competing with my lettering?

  • Are some chalk markers better than others?

  • How do I determine the sizes of my design elements?

  • Do I need to know how to draw in order to create effective chalk layouts?

  • What is the best way to introduce color to my layouts?

    This course is designed to address these kinds of issues that you will find regularly as you tackle this kind of work.

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?

It can be difficult to make chalk art that you are consistently proud of but Chalk Lettering Intro will give you the tools that you need to ask the right questions for each unique design challenge that you will face.

Each chalk layout will have its own personality and I like to help students determine how to communicate the feeling that the provided content dictates. What helps us all as chalk artists / lettering artists is becoming students of the this discipline that we call lettering. I will personally show you how to specifically do that and incorporate observing and understanding lettering into your lifestyle.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is this course live? Yes, this workshop will be hosted live by myself. I think live workshops are best because of the Q&A. I have purchased courses that have modules that I sadly still haven’t completed. A live host gives you a bit more incentive to show up and learn.

How long do I have access to the course? You will have lifetime access to this course after its completed.

Can I take this class if I’ve never lettered chalkboards before? Yes. Your lettering experience will help you craft more successful letters obviously, however we will definitely be going over chalk, the chalk marker and how to get it to successfully glide over a chalk surface so no worries. I will also be showing you how to transfer lettering onto your board.
